the Escape from California Omaha, NE, The Latchkey Kids and the Escape from California by Dante Salvatierra is due to be released on February 29, 2008. The Escape from California is the sequel to The Latchkey Kids and the Fight for a Free Fifth Grade and is the fourth and possibly last book in the series. All of Salvatierra’s novels are published and printed via the print-on-demand technology provided by Lulu.com. Although The Escape from California is written for children ages 8 and older it also tackles weighty adult issues. The novel is about a group of children who, in the previous book, uncover a dangerous and sinister plot to raise test scores at their elementary school. The conspiracy’s mastermind is an evil Presidential candidate who seeks to use the raised test scores as evidence for his education platform. The Latchkey Kids run away to escape the powerful and vengeful candidate turned criminal. The Fight for a Free Fifth Grade ended in a way that made readers believe the series was over and that the corrupt politician had won. However, in The Escape from California, Salvatierra uncovers a surprise beginning that reveals how the last book truly ended. Salvatierra wants to make sure the villain was not inspired by any real life politicians. “The story was inspired by my experiences as a teacher under the No Child Left Behind Act, but it doesn’t mean that the villain is a politician connected with that law.” He also mentions that it is purely coincidental that the book is being released during a Presidential election year. Salvatierra, 35, is an elementary school teacher in Omaha, Nebraska who recently battled a brain tumor. Escape from California will be available at www.dantesalvatierra.org
on February 29, 2008. ISBN: 978-1-4357-0876-1. It will be available on
online bookstores soon afterwards. XXXXX September 27, 2006 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Of interest to editors and journalists covering: Children’s Fiction Dante Salvatierra Announces Print-on-Demand Availability of The Latchkey

From the Author, Dear Friends and Readers, On April 6th, 2006, I underwent a successful 13 hour surgery to remove a plum sized tumor in the right frontal section of my brain. After the surgery I spent 5 days in the hospital in recovery. I returned home on April 10th and continued my recovery at home. I returned to the hospital from April 23rd to April 25th as a precaution because of symptoms that were similar to an infection. A biopsy of the tumor revealed what we had suspected. The tumor was a low grade astrocytoma type tumor which means that it has a relatively low chance of regrowing quickly. It is still a possibility and I will have to undergo a long term series of MRI's to monitor any future growths. I hope to return to work in my classroom on May 8th and I have already worked a little bit on my 4th Latchkey Kid novel. Stay tuned for details on the release of the 3rd novel, "The Latchkey Kids and the Fight for a Free Fifth Grade" Thanks, Dante Salvatierra
XXXXX March 18th 2006 Salvatierra Diagnosed with Brain Tumor From the Author: Dear Friends and Readers, On February 27th, 2006 a mass was found in my brain. The mass is probably a slow growing tumor about the size of a plum. The good news is that the tumor is operable and we are tentatively scheduled to undergo surgery on April 6th, 2006. The bad news is that for Latchkey Kids fans I will not be able to continue editing the third book or begin writing the fourth book until I recover. The doctor says I will be out of work between 4-6 weeks at least. Although there is some anxiety about the surgery, I am very optomistic that things will go very well. To keep updated on the situation I have created an online journal at: http://dubyathetumor.livejournal.com Thanks for support during this difficult time and lots of love, Dante Salvatierra XXXXX October 13th, 2005 Salvatierra featured in Self Publisher News Please visit Self Publisher News and check out their November article. Kids and the Trip Through the Mysterious Portal at Lulu.com The Mysterious Portal is written for children and adults ages 8 and above and is the sequel to Salvatierra’s first book, The Latchkey Kids and the Search for the Sacred Statue. The Mysterious Portal is an adventure story involving a group of children on a rescue mission in an alternate universe. Salvatierra writes The Latchkey Kids series because he is also an elementary school teacher and wanted to write a story his working class children could identify with. He came to Lulu because he wanted to be in control of the publishing process and found Lulu’s print-on-demand tools to be fast, easy and, most importantly, free. The Latchkey Kids series is available for purchase at www.lulu.com, in a marketplace filled with other unique, and sometimes, downright strange, items. Salvatierra states that, “Using lulu.com allowed me the freedom to create my series the way I wanted.” “Lulu.com is all about access to information. It’s the Internet version of an open-air marketplace, it’s a place where independent authors and artists have access to wider audiences and fans of independent art and literature have access to new, unique voices such as Dante Salvatierra’s Latchkey Kids series,” said Henry Hutton, Director of Operations, Lulu.
